Two new Telemedical links have been established in Ethiopia.
We welcome Debark Hospital, Amhara. This is a teaching hospital serving a large catchment area covering almost the entire Simien Mountains and treating 50,000 patients a year. They have 5 Doctors, 35 Nurses, 57 in-patient beds and a large out-patients department. Offering services of Ophthalmology, Dentistry, a small Radiology Unit, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, internal medicine, X-ray and Ultrasound. For those patients that are unable to pay for their treatment they have many NGOs that are involved in funding the hospital.
We also welcome SMMMS Clinic, Keyit. This is a community out-patient clinic with a small in-patient unit. Here they have 1 Nurse and 2 Midwives, services are very limited at the moment only offering clinical examinations but a medical lab and an Ultrasound unit is being established. Most drugs are available including antibiotics, vaccinations and drugs for prenatal and natal care. All services are funded by SMMMS.
A new Swinfen link has been set up to a community based telemedicine service in India to help offer medical advice, diagnoses and recommended treatment to those in need, free to those patients that cannot pay. They have no beds and cannot offer surgery.
We look forward to working with them
