New Link, New Country!

A new Swinfen Telemedicine link has been set up to a Women and Children’s Hospital in Syria (also a new country for Swinfen). This is an acute and Outpatient service with Telehealth Teaching facility. They offer Maternity care, Neonatal/ Infant/ Child care, Nutritional Support, Family Planning, Haematology and Oncology. There are 30 Doctors and 50 nurses offering medical care. These services will be free to those patients that are unable to pay.

New Link in Tanzania

Shirati KMT hospital is one of only two hospitals in the Tarime District, Tanzania. Shirati Hospital has 150 beds which at times are shared by more than one patient. 10 Doctors, 10 Assistant medical officers and 20 nurses all do their best to provide the medical care that is needed. With Charity drive, the hospital serves many of the local population who has no health insurances and due to the extreme poverty of the area have little money for health care services.

Shirati Hospital provides many medical services: Surgery and In-patient services; Pediatrics ward, Maternity ward, Female ward, Male ward,  Infusion Unit, Blood transfusion. Out-patient services; Pharmacy,  Laboratory, Radiology and X-ray Unit, Maternal, Ante Natal Care and RCH unit,  Family Planning, HIV Clinic, Ultrasound. The hospital is now moving on to initiate with electronic Medical Records.


Cases received this month from:

Afghanistan – we have been working with hospitals/clinics here since 2004 and have dealt with over 520 cases

Albania – we have been connected to a refugee camp since 2016 and have helped with over 60 cases from them

Bangladesh – They have active Telemedical links since 1999

China – Telemedical links have been active since 2008

Iraq – We now have 56 Telemedical links in Iraq and they are our biggest users. They have been active since 2004 sending over 1,800 cases

Nepal First link here was in 2000, we are now connected to 26 hospitals/clinics

Nigeria – A new link was set up this month and has already started to use our system.



Welcome New Links

India – An NGO working in a community Hospital that has 20 Doctors/Nurses/Medical staff. 10 beds are on site and offer General Medicine, Paediatrics, Gyn & Obs, Generic and alternative system of medicine. They have an attached lab with an ECG machine, CBP,  Biochemistry Analyser and a Pulse Oximeter. A Pharmacy counter is also on site. Those patients that cannot afford to pay will be seen free of charge.

Iraq – A specialist Paediatric medical centre with 23 Doctors, 80 medical staff, 65 beds and very little resources! They offer Neurology and Nephrology and have access to CT Scan and MRI. No drugs are available. All services and Therapies are free to those that are unable to pay.

Zambia – A Family out patients practice with 3 Paediatricians, 2 Nurses, 1 Laboratory technician and 1 Pharmacy technician. Offering Paediatric consultations, hearing screening, Occupational therapy, Dietician, Laboratory and Pharmacy. Equipment on site consists of a Spirometer, Haematology machine, Euroline machine for basic allergy RAST testing, I-chrome machine for CPR, Thyroid function tests & HbA1c, OAE screener, Nebulizer and a Pulse Oximeter. The pharmacy provides branded drugs. They offer probono work for those who are unable to pay.

Zimbabwe – A Government teaching hospital with 61 Doctors, 673 Nurses and 41 Pharmacists, Laboratory Scientists, Physiotherapists, and 500 beds. The services they provide is General medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Anaesthesia, ENT Specialists, Opthalmology  and Radiology. With CT scans, Opthalmosscopy, X-rays, USS scan but very little availability to drugs. For those patients that cannot pay they offer a social fund.


Two new connections

Two new Telemedical links have been established in Ethiopia.

We welcome Debark Hospital, Amhara. This is a teaching hospital serving a large catchment area covering almost the entire Simien Mountains and treating 50,000 patients a year. They have 5 Doctors, 35 Nurses, 57 in-patient beds and a large out-patients department. Offering services of Ophthalmology, Dentistry, a small Radiology Unit, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, internal medicine, X-ray and Ultrasound. For those patients that are unable to pay for their treatment they have many NGOs that are involved in funding the hospital.

We also welcome SMMMS Clinic, Keyit. This is a community out-patient clinic with a small in-patient unit. Here they have 1 Nurse and 2 Midwives, services are very limited at the moment only offering clinical examinations but a medical lab and an Ultrasound unit is being established. Most drugs are available including antibiotics, vaccinations and drugs for prenatal and natal care. All services are funded by SMMMS.
